Children's Eye Health & Safety Month

PupilBox has always been a champion of regular visits to your eye doctor- we realize that only the overall health of your vision can truly prevent digital eye strain and have you working at your best. With the school year about to begin, though, it is also time to think about the healthy vision of your children!

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month!

It is time to schedule an annual eye exam! Not only will a visit to the eye doctor detect basic vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, but can also catch and treat the beginnings of Amblyopia (lazy eye), Ptosis (drooping of the eyelid), Strabismus (crossed eyes), and Color deficiency (color blindness).

There are a few indicators which you can be on the lookout for at home. Be sure to make an appointment right away if you notice the following signs:

  • Wandering or crossed eyes

  • Disinterest in reading or viewing distant objects

  • Squinting or turning the head in an unusual manner while watching television

There are about 42,000 sports-related eye injuries every year in America, and children suffer most of these injuries. Sports injuries are probably the largest threat to the health of their little eyes! Make sure that they are always wearing the appropriate eye protection for the sport in which they are participating.

During this Children’s Eye and Safety Month, make sure that your children have a successful school year by scheduling a comprehensive eye exam TODAY!

Unfortunately, there are numerous factors that make your eyes tired and your productivity plummet by causing DES. One of the contributors can be the reduced blink rate which occurs during screen use. We know that blink rate can decrease by as much as a factor of 5 during screen use, but why?
